There are 1,288 Native American ancestral remains and 477 associated funerary objects at the Mississippi Dept. of Archives and History.

Of those, 551 Native American ancestral remains and 265 associated funeral objects are still pending identification and not yet available for repatriation.

In addition, Mississippi Dept. of Archives and History has also identified 572 total unassociated funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony in their collections.

Note: Under NAGPRA, museums, universities and federal agencies are not required to report when ancestors, funerary objects, or other sacred objects are returned to tribes or Native Hawaiian Organizations. Therefore, it is possible that there are fewer ancestors or sacred objects actually in a museum's collection currently than listed at the time of publication. We will consider amending an organization's page if contacted.
